  • 3 lbs beef brisket
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for searing)

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and pat dry.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear each side of the brisket for about 5 minutes until browned.
  3. Remove brisket and sauté sliced onions until golden brown; add minced garlic towards the end.
  4. Stir in brown sugar, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Return the brisket to the pan and pour in beef broth until halfway covered.
  5. Cover and simmer on low heat for 3-4 hours or until fork-tender.
  6. Shred the brisket with two forks and return it to the sauce before serving.
