  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup water or chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients by chopping the onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove excess grease.
  3. Add onions and bell peppers to the skillet; sauté until onions are translucent (about 5 minutes).
  4. Stir in minced garlic for the last minute of cooking.
  5. Mix in the kidney beans, pinto beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and water/broth.
  6. Bring to a gentle boil; reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes until thickened.
