- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper (any color), diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup water or chicken broth
Instructions
- Prepare all ingredients by chopping the onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove excess grease.
- Add onions and bell peppers to the skillet; sauté until onions are translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in minced garlic for the last minute of cooking.
- Mix in the kidney beans, pinto beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and water/broth.
- Bring to a gentle boil; reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes until thickened.
