- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)

Instructions
- The night before, cut bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange in a greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix sliced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon until well coated.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and nutmeg until smooth.
- Pour half of the custard over the bread slices, layer on the apple mixture, then pour remaining custard over the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) in the morning. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
